Looking back on Lyndsey’s Stage 3 journey, and thi Looking back on Lyndsey’s Stage 3 journey, and this armchair still stops us in our tracks. This was her final piece, a traditionally upholstered armchair that represents months of learning, problem solving, and quiet determination.Upholstered in Linwood Wiggle fabric in the emerald colourway, the chair feels bold yet timeless, a beautiful balance of traditional skill and modern fabric choice. This piece marked the completion of her diploma with the Association of Master Upholsterers, and she passed with flying colours. A huge achievement, and one she should be incredibly proud of.Watching a student reach this stage is always special. By Stage 3, students are working far more independently, and the confidence in pieces like this often marks the point at which they’re ready for private commissions.#traditionalcraft #upholsterers #inspiration #heritagecraft #womeninbusiness
Every upholsterer has their go to tools, and these Every upholsterer has their go to tools, and these two couldn’t be more different.Jade is sharing two favourites from opposite ends of the upholstery spectrum, one modern, one deeply traditional.First up, the Mundial staple remover. A modern upholstery must have. It’s precise, comfortable to use, and makes removing staples so much quicker and cleaner, especially when accuracy really matters. Then we move to something much more traditional, the French carding machine, also known as a cardeuse. Crafted from wood and full of character, it looks like a fairytale prop, but it earns its place in the workshop every day. This beautiful piece of kit is anything but decorative. It’s used to open up matted horsehair or coir, turning it back into a light, airy, usable filling. It’s a crucial tool in traditional upholstery and restoration, especially when working on antique chairs or sofas where the original feel and resilience really matter. It might look old fashioned, but this is the kind of tool that keeps traditional upholstery alive. What’s your favourite upholstery tool, and why?Tell us below in the comments 👇#traditionalupholstery
